MLK response
No question that Martin Luther King Jr. is/was a great orator and rhetorician, but he was also given the right circumstances from which to prove his abilities. Rhetoric is composed of the opportune moment, the appropriate and the possible and MLK took advantage of these. He was given the opportune moment by being born when and where he was. His marches and protests where not considered too appropriate, but as me stated in his letter, man should only follow just laws. Furthermore, as judged my time, his marches, sit-ins and other non-violent forms of protest are considered more than appropriate and in accordance with the 1st amendment. Finally, the letter from Birmingham Jail was made possible by: the jail, years of oppression, and scraps of paper he was provided with. No doubt MLK used every circumstance and ability he was gifted to advance morality and human dignity to Birmingham and beyond. Beyond circumstances, MLK said that regardless of when or where he was born he would do the right thing. MLK would have spoken out, used rhetoric, and organized demonstrations, he would fight with the freedom fighters, comfort any Jews in Germany, or fight for his own race. This is the mark of a good man and a true Christian. He was not concerned only for himself or his race, he went beyond, seeking justice for all.
