Response to Everybody

I read over all of the speeches that people selected for this response and pretty much agree with everything that's been said... does this count as a blog response? It's been really interesting to see the wide range of speeches we have chosen and I've really enjoyed the rhetoric from these different sources. I think it's great that we can see rhetoric in movies and from t.v. and music celebrities and that these people are actually doing something with their fame that is worth the attention of the press... at least enough to put the text online. I think that Legally Blond (Parts 1 and 2) had an interesting take on law school and careers and though I admit that the purpose was not to portray this field realistically, I can see hoards of blond women flocking to the LSAT's just because of Elle Woods. I also love the commencement speeches from the rock stars, they always have an interesting perspective due to their accessablility to uncommon places. Bono is a particularly good example of someone who knows how to take full advantage of his fame and fortune and lets face it... America responds to rock stars. It's also important to recognize the political speeches made in recent news which more students in our class did. The AIDS situation along with recognizing the Holocaust victims and survivors are just two of the many situations that demand and deserve close attention. We must also always read the words of the leaders of this country and of the world such as Bill Clinton, Major General Jeffrey, Wangari Maathai, and Mary Robinson just to name the ones addressed. Looking at the contrast of all the speeches, it is interesting to compare them with the attitude of our class and of our generation. The overriding theme seems to be "respect the past, learn from it and make a difference for the future." I happen to agree with this logos, ethos and pathos argument (there's my rhetoric jargon for this post!) and hope that I/we can continue to learn from these speeches and the responses of my/our classmates.
