Weaver: a very dull man
Weaver lived a mundane, painfully boring, and lonely life when compared to the standard. The man switched in and out of jobs looking for contentment. He switched in and out of political parties looking for fulfillment. He never married, never had kids, and took the same walk to work through his whole life. He was an alcoholic, a recluse, extremely routine based, in love with harmony and routines. How BOARING is that? No wonder he never married…nobody wants a stick-in-the-mud gardening, English teacher.
Weaver is also obsessed with harmony. He gives up his car, won’t fly, only rides in trains, and uses a plow! Talk about a technophobe! How can this man talk about the human having three parts? A body…he physically abused with beer, A mind he was unwilling to expand to new ideas of technology, transportation, and other advancements, A soul that for him should have been heavy if not crushed by endless routine!
I did like what he had to say about the mind and human’s ability to use symbols. He is right that these are what separate us and allow us to have culture. The mind has four parts. The emotional is contemplative and yields pleasure or pain. The ethical is capable of judging between right and wrong. The rational allows for definition of concepts and ideas. The soul guides the mind and body to good or evil.
