Weaver: Embodiment of Worldview
I like what Weaver had to say about Rhetorical Embodiment of Worldview, but I am confused by his first point. Weaver says that you can tell a lot about someone by the style of argument not just the argument itself. I don’t know if I agree with that or not…I try not to argue about anything with anybody…However, I think that what someone argues for must be pretty important…if they are arguing!
Genus or definition creates classes that are predictable of people. I love they idea of arguing with a thief. It sounds like my experience in elementary school. I use to get into a lot of fights. Picked on because I was skinny, had classes and was not really coordinated. The recess people told me I should tell them before I get into a fight. Hold on bully…I’ll be right back! J The idea of talking sense into people like that is funny.
Similitude grants significance to relationships. The sky is like the ocean because they are both blue…not really!
Cause and effect: is like 20/20 vision. Something is the cause of an effect. It is usually apparent after the effect happens. Because of the recess monitors, I now have little respect for authority.
Authority and testimony happens in court all the time. Some expert comes in and vouches for why the sky and the ocean are blue but have little to do with each other.
