diet and exercise

Today’s presentation on the rhetoric of diet and exercise was very well organized. Annie had a good, strong beginning by starting with the facts. Her statistics came from the San Francisco Chronicle which seems to be a very reliable source. Most of the facts she presented were shocking to me. I like the way she went through each of the diets, telling what all is involved in the diets then showing the downside of a lot of them. The pathos she included was the Atkins testimonies. They are meant to invoke some kind of emotional response from obese people and convince them that Atkins will work for them. They made it sound so easy. Personally speaking, I tried the South Beach diet last summer and found it to be very difficult. The plan doesn’t let you eat any bread, pasta, fruit, or starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, carrots, etc.) It didn’t work for me. I couldn’t do without my cereal. The conclusion was very well done. Annie summed up her entire presentation by labeling the three types of rhetoric as well as the types of persuasion.
