4-19 & 4-21 Postings

The ethos from Kevin's presentation was based in his personal acting career and experience with drama, as well as the fact that he is taking a course on Shakespeare this semester. Kevin illustrated that Shakespeare achieves the ultimate goal of all rhetoricians in each of his works.

Robert's ethos was based in the Anit-Americanism course that he is taking this semester, as well as his personal research and study of the topics of Orientalism and Manufacturing Consent. Robert's own logos was an example of the format he asserted that our foreign policy should apply to their own, namely, that it should be informative instead of utilizing 'shock and awe' media coverage to sway the public to a certain opinion. Robert used pathos when he unveiled American pride manifest in the prevalent and undeniable 'us vs. them' mentality Americans possess and are encouraged to nurture by media. He was forensic in his review of past events and policies and deliberative when he prescribed reform to the media who typically focus on only negative aspects of world events to create bias. I think that Robert reached his telos of opening our eyes to our shortcomings and tendencies.

Bonnie presented an argument objectively which she had researched well. And although her main focus was profanity on television, her presentation was epideictic and deliberative because it caused the audience to question whether profanity should be a primary concern [over sexuality, violence...] and whether it was truly a television or maybe more a parental issue.

Christy's presentation on the show Desparate Housewives was epideictic and she used her pathos arguments poignently. Her ethos was based in her dedication as a viewer and her quoting other sources. However, I do not believe that I could condone the show even after seeing the presentation.
