Don't read that! I'm afraid!

I'm trying my best to catch up today on blogs. This semester is really truly killing me. And I've learned that I only need to take classes that happen after 11:30. So much for wanting to be a professor. Maybe I need to move to a different time zone and my schedule will work itself out.
*yawn*

Ok, book banning. This was a perfect topic. Don't get me wrong, all of the topics have been fantastic. But, being an English class that deals in the arts of persuasion--persuading people to ban books is an absolute nightmare to all that is logical. Aristotle said, "The honest rhetorician has no seperate name to distinguish him from the dishonest," and that, "things which are better or more true are naturally easier to believe in." I think the problem is that these book banning freaks of evolution (sorry, this makes me angry) think they are in the right just as much as everyone who thinks they should'nt be banned. The difference is ...one side bases their logos on fear, twisted religious principles (generally, not always), and this hyped-up sense of exigency. The other side uses logical arguments, is not afraid of facing the unknown and the offensive. If you can face the offensive, and not be offended, you take the power away from the offense. I watched Nanny 911 last night--dont ask--and she went to this house full of kids who cursed a lot. The parents would ignore the language or flip out and act like it was a big deal. So, super nanny comes in and everytime they curse, she sends them to the bathroom (for potty-mouth) and says they can curse all they want in the bathroom. And the kids quit. She took the power away from the offense by acknowledging it and not letting it affect her.

Simple principles, really.

Harry Potter is not the devil. Man, I love those books. My roommates make fun of me all the time...I think they're simply written and brilliant for being such. But this isn't a blog about the Potter boy.

I think I can get one more blog in before class time.
